This year, the marathon track was registered in the International Athletic Marathon Federation, by means of which the Skopje Marathon entered into the group of worldwide famous marathons. In parallel to this, for the first time this year, the measuring of achieved timings was done through chips attached to runners’ start numbers of each participant.
The Kenyan athletes, Dickson Terer and Cecilia Warutumo are the winners of the male and female races - Terer completed the marathon of 42,195 km in a record setting time of two hours, 23 minutes and 50 seconds and Cecilia Warutumo also set a new women’s record, completing the marathon race in 2 hours, 50 minutes and 6 seconds.
Part of the participation fee funds for all three races is to be donated to the Association for Assistance of Children with Special Needs “Give Us Wings” for refurbishing of the “Kozle” swimming pool, necessary for hydrotherapy of the children.
